From the Horace’s arse: U.S. lit sucks

The last American writer to win a Nobel Prize for literature was Toni Morrison, in 1993. Why has it been so long since another has been honored? Perhaps Nobel Prize judge Horace Engdahl’s opinion on the quality of American literature will shed some light: “The US is too isolated, too insular. They don’t translate enough and don’t really participate in the big dialogue of literature,” he said. “That ignorance is restraining.”
